Ensure that your make up air units operate properly and provide optimal comfort to your occupants

Here are a few practical tips on managing your make up units.

What is a make up air unit?

Most air make up units contain fans, ducts, dampers, heating and cooling coils, as well as related control sensors. Make up air systems are divided into two large categories: constant volume (CV) and variable air volume (VAV):

Constant air volume: Constant air volume systems supply constant airflow to an area. The control variable is the temperature of the air supplied to the area.
Variable air volume: VAV systems provide comfort to occupants by modifying the volume of air delivered to an area based on temperature needs and are controlled by the static pressure measured in the duct system.

Cost management and make up air unit efficiency

Some maintenance strategies must be implemented in order to increase your efficiency, reduce your operating costs, and to provide a comfortable environment to your occupants. Here are three things to consider:

Filters:  Ensure you replace your filters according to the recommended frequencies.

Dampers: Check them regularly.

Coils: Include coil cleaning in your preventative maintenance plan.

There are some other good methods to reduce your operating costs.
